CI Financial is seeking a visionary and results-driven Vice President, Fund Taxation to lead the strategic direction, governance, and execution of all fund taxation matters across CI’s suite of investment products—including mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds, mutual fund corporations, and segregated funds. This executive role will shape Fund tax policy, drive operational excellence, and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks, while partnering cross-functionally to support innovation and growth.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the enterprise-wide fund taxation strategy aligned with CI’s business objectives and regulatory landscape.

  • Serve as the senior tax authority for CI’s investment products, advising executive leadership on tax implications of product development, fund structures, and corporate actions.

  • Lead tax planning initiatives to optimize fund performance, investor outcomes, and operational efficiency.

  • Design and execute on all modernization efforts to streamline and add controls on oversight of our strategic third party vendors.

 

Oversight

  • Oversee the full tax distribution and allocation cycle—monthly, quarterly, and annually—for all CI funds.

  • Direct the review and approval of mock and final year-end distributions, tax factors, and investor tax slips.

  • Ensure accurate and timely filing of fund tax returns, and lead CRA and external audit engagements.

  • Develop and execute policies and procedures for fund taxation.

 

Risk & Compliance

  • Monitor and interpret changes in tax legislation and regulatory requirements; proactively adjust policies and procedures to maintain compliance.

  • Oversee PFIC reporting, HST blended rate calculations, withholding tax reclaims, and international tax documentation (e.g., W8 BEN-E, CRS, W9).

  • Review tax disclosure in prospectuses and legal documentation

  • Ensure robust internal controls and documentation standards across all fund taxation processes.
     

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Legal, Product, Marketing, Sales, Client Services, and Operations to support tax-related inquiries and disclosures.

  • Represent Fund Taxation in enterprise initiatives including fund launches, mergers, terminations, and system enhancements.

  • Lead the enhancement of CI’s tax optimization tools and reporting platforms.
     

Team & Vendor Management

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing tax team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors, custodians, and service providers to ensure timely and accurate tax reclaim filings and information exchange.
