The Taxation Analysis Branch within the Finance Policy and Research Division (FPRD) is responsible for tax policy research, analysis, and providing advice to Government. It also develops, implements and forecasts tax measures and income tax credits.
Duties:
This position is responsible for:
- Research and analysis of provincial tax issues, with a focus on quantitative data analysis and forecasting.
- Developing policy options and recommendations and providing advice to provincial departments, agencies and Crown Corporations on tax-related issues.
- Act as lead or serve on interdepartmental and intergovernmental committees and working groups.
- Perform branch functions under the rules and requirements of intergovernmental agreements.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary degree (preferably at the masters level), training and/or experience in economics, accounting, computer science, business or public administration or law
- Experience in economic forecasting using advanced econometric methods and sound judgment in fiscal and economic analysis and/or program review
- Experience in quantitative research, economic modeling, and providing actionable recommendations.
- Strong political acumen skills and tact in dealing with complex and sensitive issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to work independently to prioritize and manage conflicting limitations.
- Advanced proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite (specializing in Excel) and the R programing language to complete complex analysis of large data sources.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with data encryption and secure handling of sensitive data.
Desired:
- Experience in project management and handling large scale organizational change
- Solid understanding of macroeconomic fundamentals and public finance principles.
- Strong understanding of the provincial and federal taxation system
