Job Title: Senior Architect (Contract - 1 Year, Option to Extend)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid Toronto, ON
Hours: 35 per week (Billable Hours Only)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect to support design and construction activities across multiple ongoing transit-related projects. This role is ideal for a highly skilled architectural professional who excels in technical accuracy, multidisciplinary coordination, and hands-on site involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full architectural design services for transit and infrastructure facilities.
- Direct, coordinate, and review the work of Design Architects and support staff.
- Prepare code compliance reviews, schematic designs, preliminary concepts, and technical design reports.
- Develop work plans, coordinate staff assignments, and act as the design lead on assigned projects.
- Produce complete contract documentation and sign off on drawings where required.
- Conduct field reviews, site inspections, deficiency reporting, and permit-related reviews.
- Provide construction-phase support, including reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and contract submittals.
- Coordinate and justify anticipated contract changes.
- Review and provide comments on technical documents prepared by internal engineering teams and external consultants.
- Participate in reviews of external development proposals for alignment with standards.
- Support updates to architectural design standards as assigned.
- Ensure all designs meet technical adequacy, safety, constructability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness requirements.
Work Environment, Equipment & PPE Requirements
- Hybrid role: mix of office presence, remote work, and regular on-site field visits (approx. 2-3 days weekly), with potential 24-hour notice.
- Must be located within reasonable commuting distance to the GTA due to frequent site attendance.
- Personal Computer Requirement:
- You must use your own Windows-based personal computer and home Wi-Fi to connect remotely (via RDP) to the organization's systems.
- Ability to use Microsoft Teams and other standard online meeting platforms is required.
- PPE Requirements:
- Safety vest, hard hat, safety glasses, and reflective bands will be provided.
- Safety shoes are not provided and must be brought by the consultant.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
- 15+ years of directly related experience, including work on transit, transportation, or large-scale public infrastructure facilities.
- Full membership with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) - Mandatory.
- Demonstrated leadership experience on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, architectural standards, contract documents, and construction processes.
Contract Details
- 1-year contract, with options to extend up to two additional 1-year terms.
- Approximately 35 hours/week, with only actual hours worked considered billable.
