Additional Information


The Enhanced Educational Supports (EES) class provides educational programming for students in grades 1-6 with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. The EES class focuses on building foundational skills in functional academics, communication, social interaction, leisure skills, functional living skills, and skills for self-regulation. The curriculum is modified to support the personalization of learning according to the unique strengths and needs of each student. The classroom team includes a teacher, education assistants and a lunchroom supervisor. Additional supports from multi-disciplinary team members may include consultation and collaboration with behaviour support workers, specialists, strategists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physiotherapists, and psychologists.

Learner Profile

  • Students in grades 1- 6 who have been diagnosed with a moderate to severe cognitive disability and low to extremely low adaptive functioning.
  • Students may have co-occurring diagnoses including a medical diagnosis.

Position Description


Responsibilities

  • Safely removes tables to and from storage areas as required. Sets up, arranges and dismantles the lunch area. Sets out lunch amenities such as milk, emergency lunches or activity centers as required. Operates basic equipment, such as a microwave, TV/ VCR, recording devices, PA systems etc., to address student needs as necessary. Assists with the preparation and service of menu items, taking cash, ordering and putting supplies away as required.
  • Effectively and efficiently cleans up the food preparation area following best practice sanitation procedures as outlined in the Food Services Handbook, as required. Washes dishes, sanitizes tabletops daily, sweeps the floor and mops up spills as necessary, and cleans chairs and equipment used for lunches on a regular basis. Ensures proper disposal of garbage and litter into designated garbage cans.
  • Supervises and interacts with students by focusing on the positives, modeling and encouraging appropriate behaviour and manners. Remains alert to all situations that may represent a risk to students. Responds immediately by taking appropriate action to reinstate a safe, secure environment.
  • Records student attendance, absences, accidents and behaviour issues for data driven assessments, ensuring the confidentiality of student information at all times.
  • Participates regularly in educational appropriate activities, scheduled programs and workshops to enhance related knowledge, strategies and skills.
  • Communicates effectively with students and staff to build rapport, ensuring tact and diplomacy when problem solving.
  • Signs out or oversees the distribution and preparation of activities, crafts or games or issue emergency lunches/food, as appropriate.
  • Attends related meetings and serves as a liaison with the school Principal or designate to ensure that adequate food supplies are ordered and delivered, as required.
  • Assists with hygiene routines and proper feeding techniques of students as the situation requires it.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet the purpose and accountabilities of the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Standard First Aid and CPR certificates preferred

NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that range from a limited to medium National Occupational Classification category (carrying and lifting from 4.5 to 20 kilograms) for the majority of the critical job demands. There are a few tasks that are in the heavy lifting category (lifting over 20 kilograms), however co-worker assistance is available for such tasks as setting up tables, thereby making it a medium level position (lifting from 10 to 20 kilograms) for each worker. In addition to lifting from ground to above shoulder level, this position requires bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, walking, standing, sitting, and using hands in the preparation of foods, and the cleaning and moving of tables.
