Live Event Lighting
Job Description
About Maan Farms
Maan Farms is home to the Scariest Corn Maze in Canada and the Frightfully Fun Forest — two flagship Halloween experiences that draw tens of thousands of guests every fall. We're proud of what we've built, and now we're ready to take it further.
We're expanding beyond Halloween into new after-hours immersive events — think large-scale lighting, projection, fog, lasers, and sound that completely transform our outdoor spaces into something people have never experienced before. The kind of moments that stop you in your tracks.
Here's what we want you to know upfront: we're beginners in the immersive lighting and effects world, but we have very high aspirations. We know what we want to create. What we need is the right person to help us figure out what's actually possible with our time, space, and budget — and help us build it out step by step, getting better every season.
The Role
We're looking for a hands-on, creative-minded technician to take the lead on the technical side of our immersive events. You'd work directly with our team on-site at Maan Farms to design, set up, and run the lighting, visual, and atmospheric effects that bring our events to life.
This is a part-time to full-time hybrid position. During the off-season, you'd be involved on a consistent but lighter basis — planning, sourcing equipment, testing ideas, and building out new concepts with us. As show dates approach, hours ramp up significantly through the build and run of each event.
We're not looking for someone who already knows everything. We're looking for someone with a solid foundation, a genuine passion for creating experiences, and the drive to learn and grow alongside us. If you have strong skills in some of the areas below and are excited to develop the rest, we want to hear from you.
What You'd Work On
Lighting & LED
- Setting up and running lighting for outdoor and indoor event spaces — everything from basic wash lights and spotlights to LED strips and colour-changing fixtures
- Learning and operating lighting control software and systems to program scenes, chases, and timed effects
- Helping design the overall "look" of each event space through creative use of light and colour
Projection & Visuals
- Setting up projectors to display imagery and animations onto trees, buildings, and structures outdoors
- Working with visual software like Resolume, MadMapper, or similar tools to create and run projected content
- Exploring what's possible with projection mapping — turning ordinary surfaces into immersive visual experiences
Fog, Atmosphere & Special Effects
- Operating fog machines, haze machines, and CO2 effects to create atmosphere and depth across event spaces
- Exploring new effects like lasers, water features, and scent to elevate the guest experience over time
- Helping us understand what's realistic to add each season and what to phase in for future years
Sound & Audio
- Setting up and managing speaker systems across outdoor trails and event areas
- Creating or sourcing ambient soundscapes and audio effects that sync with the visual experience
- Making sure audio, lighting, and effects all work together as one cohesive show
Equipment Sourcing & Planning
- Helping us research and source quality equipment at the best price — we've been exploring Chinese manufacturers for cost advantages, but we're open to all avenues and would rely on your guidance
- Recommending what to invest in first and what can wait, based on our goals and budget
- Managing equipment inventory, maintenance, and storage between seasons
Who You Are
You don't need to check every box. But if you see yourself in most of this list, you're probably who we're looking for:
- You have hands-on experience in at least some of these areas — lighting, audio, projection, live events, or effects — and a genuine desire to grow your skills in the rest
- You've worked in live events, theatre, nightlife, festivals, haunted attractions, or any environment where you're creating an experience for an audience
- You're comfortable with physical work — rigging, mounting, running cable, building things, and working outdoors in BC weather
- You're a problem solver who can figure things out, improvise when needed, and make it work on show night
- You can take the lead on the technical side and help guide a team that's passionate but still learning in this space
- You have some experience with (or willingness to learn) sourcing equipment from suppliers, whether local, online, or international
- You're excited about this as a long-term creative direction, not just a temporary gig
Bonus Points
- Experience with visual software like Resolume, MadMapper, TouchDesigner, or similar
- Background in lighting control systems or DMX programming
- Experience with haunted attractions, corn mazes, or seasonal entertainment events
- Audio engineering or sound design training
- Familiarity with sourcing from Chinese manufacturers (Alibaba, trade shows, factory direct)
- Spanish language skills
- A portfolio or photos/videos of past work in live events, installations, or shows you've helped create
Why Join Maan Farms
- Get in on the ground floor and help shape the creative and technical direction of a growing immersive events program from the start
- Work with a dedicated, tight-knit team of actors and passionate leaders who genuinely care about what they build
- Real creative influence — your ideas matter here and you'll see them come to life
- A role that grows with you — as our events expand, so does your scope and opportunity
- A workplace where big ideas are encouraged, not shut down
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
