The Role

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Operational Estates department is looking to recruit an Estates Shift Supervisor to join our team to manage the reactive and preventative maintenance across the campus.

The post requires the applicant to be a time served tradesperson and have, or be working towards, an HNC/HND in an engineering or building discipline. The successful individual will either be in a current AfC band 6 estates post within GG&C, or, have the relevant educational qualifications and experience for this post. This post will predominantly involve the management and supervision of one of our four shift teams, comprising of 2No electrical, 2No plumbing and 2No mechanical technicians, who provide 24/7 cover across the site.

This posts require a high level of knowledge, understanding and experience of building maintenance and complex electrical / engineering systems / water systems in large healthcare premises. Experience working in estates and a good understanding of statutory compliance requirements and operational guidance within a healthcare environment is also necessary. Shift Supervisors must be able to work under pressure while managing and prioritising multiple issues across the campus.

Shift pattern for the post working the rota detailed in the Person Spec and will subject to shift allowance.

Key Responsibilities

To manage the day to day maintenance works by prioritising tasks in terms of importance and effect on patient care. Maintenance tasks arising from planned maintenance system and unplanned breakdowns reported via the computerised Computer Aided Facilities Management (CaFM) systems and urgent/emergency calls. The post holder is required to assess importance of competing demands and allocate resources or at times negotiate with departments on work scheduling access times.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Completion of a registered apprenticeship in a Building services\Engineering\construction discipline SVQ
Level 4 Higher National Diploma, Modern Apprenticeship - Level 4, Professional Development Awards,(SCQ - 8-9)

Knowledge of procedures for mechanical and gas maintenance and repair of electrical equipment; BTEC/ HNC Level or City and Guilds plus relevant post apprenticeship training or equivalent experience

a minimum 5 years relevant experience
This post requires a wide knowledge of all trades skills utilised within the health service as a plannin supervisor is required to manage a multi trade maintenance workforce
Trained examined and certificated on NHS specialist systems i.e.
Low Voltage Systems,
Legionella, Safe Hot Water Temperatures.
Asbestos,
COSHH,
Confined Spaces,
Lifting Equipment Regs.
Medical Gas Pipeline Systems.
Medical ventilation systems

Leading to appointment as Authorised Person in specific systems to meet the exigencies of the organisation. (Revalidation training and examination required every three years). To maintain technical knowledge base and ensure a safe clinical environment.

Knowledge of National NHS Standards Scottish Hospital Health Technical Memorandums (SHTM and procedures
Excellent oral and written communication skills
