Reports To: Senior Projects Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee mechanical construction projects from inception through close-out. This role is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, execution, control, and successful completion of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with company strategy, contractual requirements, safety standards, and client expectations.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, technical knowledge, and project management experience within a mechanical or construction environment.

Key Responsibilities


Project Execution & Oversight

  • Manage the full lifecycle of assigned projects from planning through completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contract requirements, specifications, and company standards.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, RFQs/RFPs, and technical documentation.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Define project scope, tasks, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Coordinate drawing layouts and detailing for proper job installation.
  • Monitor and report project progress to stakeholders.
  • Oversee quality assurance and resolve technical issues as required.
  • Minimize project risks and proactively address potential challenges.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets, cost controls, and employee hours.
  • Collaborate with Finance on cost reporting, analysis, and allocation.
  • Obtain required approvals before incurring additional project costs.
  • Identify and pursue value-added change orders where appropriate.
  • Follow up on outstanding invoices as needed.

Contracts & Compliance

  • Maintain working knowledge of standard construction contracts and terms & conditions.
  • Ensure all required permits and licenses are obtained.
  • Ensure compliance with local codes, installation techniques, and safety regulations.
  • Oversee subcontractor compliance with contract and safety requirements.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Organize and attend job progress and pre-bid meetings.
  • Communicate expectations clearly to subcontractors prior to project start.
  • Supervise and evaluate employee performance in accordance with company policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Resolve disputes through strong negotiation and communication skills.

Safety

  • Maintain health and safety as the top priority on all projects.
  • Ensure employees and subcontractors comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensure Contractor Safety Packages are completed prior to project commencement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in a mechanical or construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, costing, scheduling, and construction processes (RFIs, RFQs, Change Orders, etc.).
  • Proven track record of successfully completed projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License required.

Assets:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • P.Eng., MBA, or equivalent professional designation
  • Trade background (Steamfitter, Gasfitter, Welder, Plumber, Electrician)
  • Knowledge of union contracts
  • Experience with welding, steam, gas, and related applications

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Travel to various construction sites and client meetings is required.
  • Protective equipment must be worn during site visits.
  • May require extended hours and the ability to work in high-pressure environments.
  • Combination of office-based and on-site responsibilities.
