Job Description

Strathcona Excavating Inc. is a professional contractor that specializes in the repair and installation of water and wastewater infrastructure.

We are hiring for the following positions for the 2026 construction season:

Backhoe Operator

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a Backhoe Operator
  • Experience must include: working on residential underground utility projects
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe manner.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Read and interpret ground markings and locate tickets.
  • Dig trenches to proper grade and depth
  • Experience working with shoring.
  • Ability to load and secure equipment for transport to and from site.

Pipelayer

  • Minimum of 3+ years experience
  • Check grades for conformance using levels/lasers.
  • Cut pipes to required lengths.
  • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
  • Install or repair water, storm water and/or sewer assemblies.
  • Additional skills that would be an asset: Lay out pipe routes, follow written instructions or blueprints and coordinate layouts with foremen/women.

Foreman/woman

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and utility locates
  • Ability to lead a crew and allocate tasks on a day to day basis

Labourer

  • Experience in the construction industry preferred
  • Must be physically fit

Required Experience for all positions

  • Preference given to those with residential water and sewer experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must be physically fit.
  • Safety certifications pertaining to position, or the ability to obtain such.

Additional Requirements

  • CSA approved steel toed boots.
  • These positions often require overtime and are seasonal in nature.
  • Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol testing
  • Successful completion of Company Orientation and required courses
  • Positions noted may require additional responsibilities not listed above.

Available positions are for the upcoming 2026 season with a start date in April.

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal

Pay: $22.00-$40.00 per hour
