We are currently seeking to add a Waste Technician Laborer to our Whitehorse Facility team.

Position Title: Waste Technician / Project Labourer

Reports to: Whitehorse Facility Manager

Department: Northern Facilities - Yukon

Work Location: Whitehorse, YT

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Whitehorse Facility Manager, the Waste Technician Project Labourer must demonstrate strong listening skills, adhere to safety protocols when working with hazardous materials, and operate equipment ranging from small to large sizes. Candidates should possess physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Waste Technician Project Labourers are responsible for managing waste safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Their duties include, but are not limited to, identifying and repackaging waste for transport in compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, consolidating waste as needed, loading and unloading trucks, and engaging in physically demanding tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify, handle, and prepare waste in compliance with relevant legislation and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service both at KBL and while representing the company in external interactions.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and perform daily maintenance to ensure safe operational standards.
  • Supply the Supervisor with necessary information to complete required documentation.
  • Complete load sheets and inventory reports accurately.
  • Load and unload trailers and manage customer drop-offs effectively.
  • Adhere to Safe Work Practices (SWPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and report near misses and incidents to the Supervisor promptly.
  • Prepare consolidation reports for all consolidation activities.
  • Work independently in remote locations as needed.
  • Operate small to large equipment safely and confidently.
  • Be willing to travel as necessary to fulfill project-related tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
    Some heavy lifting and physically demanding duties are required.

Work Environment

  • There is a possibility of cuts, bruises, straining, disease and /or severe injury if safe work practices are not followed.
  • Work is carried out indoors and outdoors in extreme weather in winter months. There can be exposure to dust, noise, mud, water, smoke, and bacteria.
