<p><h3>Overview</h3><p>KPMG’s Accounting Advisory Services in Vancouver is currently looking for one or more Directors or Senior Managers to join its expanding team supporting the Greater Vancouver area. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about leading and delivering exceptional service to clients facing financial reporting challenges arising from transactions and other business changes, as well as changes in accounting standards and regulatory developments.</p><p>This is an excellent opportunity to grow your career by servicing some of the most dynamic clients in the market. This role provides ongoing advancement opportunities. Entry is expected to be at the Senior Manager or Director level, depending on experience, considering complexity, communication skills, understanding of risk management requirements, maturity and level of autonomy achieved in delivery of accounting advisory services, comparability of experience to demand of client base and other relevant considerations.</p><p>Our accounting advisory teams use technical and pragmatic accounting, financial reporting and project management skills in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment to help clients take on a wide variety of accounting and financial reporting challenges, including in technical areas such as framework conversions, business combinations and divestitures, financial instruments, consolidations, and more in both IFRS and US GAAP, necessitating basic Canadian and US securities requirements, and a general understanding of finance and business operational process/systems and controls.</p><h3>What You Will Do</h3><ul><li>Cultivate opportunities and participate in, or lead, the delivery of accounting advisory engagements under IFRS, US GAAP (potentially ASPE) and take ownership of the engagements from start to finish, which will require strong project management skills, including managing client deliverables, expectations, engagement resourcing and economics</li><li>Lead and nurture client relationships throughout and in between engagements.</li><li>Contribute to the attraction, development and management of a growing team.</li><li>Remain current on applicable and evolving financial reporting standards and securities and regulatory requirements and developing accounting/business issues.</li><li>Assist clients with evaluating the requirements of accounting, reporting and disclosure standards, preparing or reviewing supporting analyses, including drafting reports and presentations, and analyzing differences between different accounting frameworks.</li><li>Advise clients on accounting implications of mergers and acquisitions, framework conversion, new standards or public offering/listing.</li><li>Develop fit-for-purpose solutions through obtaining understanding of clients’ preferences and constraints.</li><li>Assist clients in operationalizing financial reporting and regulatory reporting requirements/needs.</li><li>Work collaboratively with broader KPMG advisory teams including deal advisory, valuations, risk consulting and finance transformation, in support of your clients’ goals.</li></ul><h3>What You Bring To The Role</h3><ul><li>CPA, CA (or recognized national accounting designation), along with a post-secondary degree and 8-15 years’ experience in Big 4 accounting firms or equivalent.</li><li>Knowledge of relevant accounting topics including business combinations, common IFRS and US GAAP differences, consolidation and equity method, financial instruments including debt vs equity, disclosures, revenue, leases and share-based compensation</li><li>Experience leading client relationships and engagements and leading teams in addressing financial reporting issues, including emerging businesses and larger multinational businesses.</li><li>Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities and proven technical capabilities through researching and analyzing accounting standards, including an ability to distill the principle out of complex accounting standards and an ability to process complex fact patterns and scenarios.</li><li>Experience and versatility across accounting issues in a variety of industries, prioritizing public companies (or companies wanting to become public) in industries such as energy and natural resources (especially mining), consumer and industrial markets, technology and life science and other publicly accountable entities such as Crown corporations.</li><li>Excellent research and written and oral communication skills (including preparation of technical memos and presentations), with the ability to understand and ‘uncomplicate the complicated’ by expressing ideas clearly, confidently and concisely to both external and internal stakeholders.</li><li>Strong project management skills, with the ability to deliver assignments on time, as well as manage competing demands, without sacrificing attention to detail.</li><li>Versatility and adaptability to a dynamic and often fast-paced environment.</li><li>Knowledge of typical technologies, including Excel capabilities such as macros and pivot tables.</li><li>Developing experience with emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and ESG.</li><li>Complementary experience desired: experience in a financial reporting role in industry, involvement in process improvement, data discovery, supporting information systems or financing transformation projects from a finance lens.</li><li>Roles may also require the ability and willingness to travel, within Canada and the U.S., as well as internationally (when legally answer.</li><li>ability to juggle competing deadlines.</li></ul><h3>Compensation and Benefits</h3><p>KPMG BC Region Pay Range Information: In British Columbia, the expected base salary range for this position is $95,000 to $150,000 and may be eligible for bonus awards. The determination of an applicant’s base salary within this range is based on the individual’s location, skills, & competencies, and unique qualifications.
