Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Application Engineer Team Leader, the Senior Development Application Engineer will provide solutions and technical leadership to drive innovation of GE Grid Solutions protection and control devices. The role will define product technical requirements, provide solutions utilizing specifications, simulations, and model-based design, and mentor team members.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned technical authority with a deep understanding of power system protection and control, capable of developing robust solutions that meet customer requirements. The individual will demonstrate leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, shaping technical solutions and guidance for the team.

Core Responsibilities
- Work with Program & Product Management teams to create high‑level specifications.
- Develop and support protection and control solutions utilizing design specifications and model‑based design to facilitate code generation.
- Perform system studies and simulations using appropriate tools to validate algorithms.
- Analyze user specifications/requirements to recommend appropriate solutions.
- Analyze market trends and requirements to propose new developments in GE Digital Energy products.
- Provide technical consultation to cross‑functional teams to improve or resolve products, applications, or field issues.
- Provide technical consultation, leadership, and guidance throughout the entire NPI design process.
- Author technical papers and present materials at tradeshows and conferences for GE products.
- Assist in preparing training material and deliver training courses, where required.
- Provide technical guidance, direction, and training to new and/or experienced engineers, specialists, technicians, and co‑ops when required.
Education And Experience Required
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution, or equivalent knowledge or experience.
- Extensive experience in power system protection, automation, and control product development.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink for model design and power system simulation tools such as RTDS, PSCAD, or ATP/EMTP.
- Proven track record of publishing and presenting at industry forums and conferences.
- Familiarity with industry standards and documentation procedures of electrical utilities.
- Knowledge of modern protection and control and distribution automation developments and trends.
- Knowledge or experience of metering, wireless/ Ethernet/ serial communications applicable to P&C (such as IEC61850, Modbus, DNP3.0, and IEC60870-5-103).
