Job Summary:  Ontario Tech
University is seeking attentive individuals for the casual, part-time position
of Scribe Invigilator in the Office of Student Life. Reporting to the Manager,
Test Centre and Integrated Services, Scribe Invigilators provide critical
one-on-one support to students registered with Student Accessibility Services,
ensuring equitable access to exams by transcribing responses and/or reading
exam content aloud as per approved accommodations. We welcome applicants with academic backgrounds in Engineering,
Math, Physics, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Computer Science, as many
students receiving support write exams in these subject areas.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 

  •  Writing
    or typing responses exactly as dictated by the student, ensuring no
    rewording or alterations are made
  • Reading
    exam questions aloud if the student requires both reading and scribing
    support, strictly following the printed text without rephrasing or
    interpreting
  • Assisting
    the student in navigating digital exam platforms if required, including
    navigating between sections, handling software interfaces, or using
    assistive technology
  • Requesting
    clarification on capitalization, punctuation, and spelling, and allowing
    the student to review and edit responses for accuracy
  • Adhering
    strictly to protocols, maintaining neutrality, and refraining from
    prompting or providing hints to the student
  • Maintaining
    confidentiality of the exam content, as well as any personal or
    accommodation information about the student, in alignment with Test Centre
    and Student Accessibility Services' privacy standards
  • Arriving
    on time to review protocols and prepare for any specific student
    accommodations
  • Coordinating
    closely with the Chief Invigilator to ensure that all accommodations and
    exam protocols are consistently met
  • Assist
    with the cleaning up of testing rooms
  • Be
    aware of exam anomalies, and report incidents using the university, Test
    Centre, and Student Accessibility Services (SAS) procedures
  • Enforce
    Test Centre protocol, complete appropriate paperwork during each shift,
    maintain Test Centre security, and uphold a high level of confidentiality
  • Ensure
    academic integrity is maintained throughout all exam activities
  • Other
    duties as assigned

Required Education: 

  • Completion
    of post-secondary school program (college diploma or university degree)

Required Education:

  • We
    welcome applicants from diverse academic backgrounds. Familiarity with
    subject areas such as engineering, mathematics, physics, nursing,
    health sciences, or computer science is considered a strong asset, as
    it will support students during discipline-specific exams.
  • Minimum
    1 year of experience working in an accommodated Test Centre (preferred)
  • Minimum
    1 year of customer service experience (preferred)

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Teaching Assistant/Research Assistant/Invigilator and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the university and the PSAC.
