<p><h3>Rehabilitation Counsellor – Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine Clinic (RAAM)</h3>
<p>Position within the Mental Health & Addictions Program – Temporary, Full‑time (1.0 FTE). Working in person at the Mental Health – Portage la Prairie site. Anticipated start to end date: To be determined – 08/31/2026. Reason for term: Maternity/Parental Leave. Salary per MGEU Collective Agreement.</p>
<h3>Position Overview</h3>
<p>The Rehabilitation Counsellor provides intervention, treatment, and linkage to clients seeking addiction treatment within the Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM) clinic. The position works within an integrated multi‑disciplinary team and partners with other service providers to deliver person‑centred, recovery‑based care.</p>
<h3>Experience</h3>
<ul>
<li>Experience working from a person‑centered perspective and training.</li>
<li>Experience in the utilization of Motivational Interviewing techniques is essential.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience and skills related to addictions assessment, individual and group counselling support.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)</h3>
<ul>
<li>Graduate of an accredited post‑secondary education in Health‑Related Social Sciences (e.g. BSW, BScMH, OT, MACP, BScPN, BN, RPN). Other relevant 4‑year programs may be considered.</li>
<li>Diploma in Applied Counseling with a minimum of two (2) years supervised addictions counselling experience is considered an asset.</li>
<li>Certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST) or equivalent.</li>
<li>Enrollment/completion of the Applied Counselling Certificate Program: Specialization in Addictions or its equivalent considered an asset.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Certification/Licensure/Registration</h3>
<ul>
<li>Active license and registration to practice as required by professional association and provincial legislation.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Qualifications And Skills</h3>
<ul>
<li>Excellent organisational, interpersonal and oral communication, and documentation skills.</li>
<li>Knowledge of the mental health system, mental health disorders, and ability to work within complex systems.</li>
<li>Demonstrated knowledge and skill related to individual and group counselling services to youth/adults with concerns of addictions, mental health and co‑occurring disorders.</li>
<li>Understanding of Substance Use, Abuse and Dependency.</li>
<li>Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.</li>
<li>Proficiency in Motivational Interviewing techniques, CBT and DBT.</li>
<li>Ability to conduct bio‑psychosocial assessments and collaborate with clients to design person‑centered, strength‑based treatment plans.</li>
<li>Experience in planning, preparing and presenting educational material.</li>
<li>Respectful, positive communication with clients and staff; approachable and friendly manner.</li>
<li>Enthusiasm for person‑centered care and empathy.</li>
<li>Responsiveness to client requests and crises in a timely, flexible manner.</li>
<li>Ability to match treatment services to client’s unique circumstances.</li>
<li>Maintains current and accurate confidential records.</li>
<li>Commitment to balancing needs of clients, staff and organization, and to self‑care.</li>
<li>Engagement in ongoing professional development and reciprocal learning.</li>
<li>Active listening, coachable, responsive to supervision.</li>
<li>Commitment to personal and professional ethics, integrity and responsibility.</li>
<li>Emotional regulation, calm and tactful composure under pressure.</li>
<li>Respect for cultural safety, ability to provide culturally safe care to diverse population.</li>
<li>Proficiency of both official languages essential for bilingual positions.</li>
<li>Respect confidentiality in all formats.</li>
<li>Good work and attendance record.</li>
<li>Valid Class 5 driver’s licence, insured vehicle and liability insurance ($1,000,000).</li>
</ul>
<h3>Physical Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.</li>
<li>No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.</li>
<li>Occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.</li>
<li>Travel to other regional facilities as required.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Additional Information</h3>
<p>This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.</p>
