Project Manager/Escape Artist
Job Description
About The Ultimate Deck Shop
We help people Escape to Their Backyard.
The Ultimate Deck Shop (TUDS) is a fast-growing outdoor living company specializing in decks, fences, and full backyard projects. Our install division is becoming a major growth pillar — and we need a Project Manager who can own projects from sale to final walkthrough while protecting schedule, margin, and customer experience.
About the Role
This is a hands-on customer service role.
You own the full install lifecycle — from sales handoff to final sign-off — ensuring projects are delivered:
- On time
- On budget
- To TUDS quality standards
- With excellent customer communication
You are the bridge between Sales, contractors, permits, materials, and the homeowner.
This role requires organization, decisiveness, and the ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Review contracts, drawings, and scope
- Confirm site conditions and constructability
- Create schedules and coordinate trades
- Manage permits and inspections
- Conduct site visits and oversee build quality
- Manage documented change orders
Customer & Contractor Communication
- Become the primary point of contact after contract signing
- Provide proactive updates (no surprises)
- Solve problems quickly and professionally
- Drive projects to clean closeout and customer sign-off
Budget & Margin Protection
- Track budgets and job costing
- Identify overruns early
- Protect margin per project as a key metric
Operational Discipline
- Maintain install pipeline by stage
- Push deficiencies to completion
- Review A/R and follow up on overdue payments
- Attend weekly Level 10 meetings and monthly 1:1s
In-Store & Sales Support (Important)
While installs are the primary focus, this is a full-time role within the company.
During slower install periods or downtime between projects, you will:
- Be present in-store
- Assist the Sales team on the floor
- Support quoting and project scoping
- Help move install opportunities forward
- Provide technical insight during customer consultations
You are expected to contribute to revenue, not just manage projects.
This ensures:
- Stronger Sales
- Cleaner scopes
- Better margin protection
- Stronger install pipeline consistency
Performance Metrics
You will be measured on:
- Install pipeline (by stage)
- Margin per project
- Deficiencies outstanding
- Accounts receivable
- NPS score and 5-Star Google Reviews
This is a results-driven role.
What We're Looking For Required
- 2+ years in construction project management or coordination
- Experience managing subcontractors or trades
- Strong communication skills (client + contractor facing)
- Valid driver's license
Preferred
- Deck, fence, or outdoor construction experience
- Familiarity with permits and inspections
- CRM / project management software experience
Core Traits
We value Project Managers who are:
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Calm under pressure
- Direct communicators
- Strong on follow-through
- Solution-oriented (not excuse-driven)
Compensation
- Salary based on experience
- Performance-based bonus
- Phone / vehicle allowance (as applicable)
