Job Description

Job Title: Project Geochemist (Modelling Focus)

Location: Remote (Canada)

Experience Level: Mid-level (2-8 years)

About Us

Vision Geochemistry Ltd. is a geochemical consulting company driving research and innovation, delivering advanced geochemical solutions throughout the entire mining lifecycle – from exploration to closure. Based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, our foundation is deeply rooted in the mining industry. We're committed to exploring and developing mining projects for the future, while pioneering sustainable practices that ensure responsible mining and effective mine closure.

Role Overview

We are seeking a motivated Project Geochemist with a focus on developing geochemical and water quality models for mining operations. This role is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in geochemistry, enjoys interpreting complex datasets, and takes ownership of building robust, predictive models that guide mine planning, operations, and closure decisions.

The ideal candidate will primarily lead mine-related modeling and testwork programs, while also engaging in research and development to advance geochemical and water quality models. The role is designed for someone ready to take technical ownership and work closely with project teams and clients to deliver scientifically robust solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate mine-related geochemical testing programs (e.g., static tests, humidity cell tests, column leach tests, etc.)
  • Interpret geochemical testwork to support predictive modelling and decision-making
  • Develop, calibrate, and apply geochemical and water quality models for mining projects at various stages in the mining lifecycle (i.e., mine development, operations, closure)
  • Design and evaluate modeling scenarios, sensitivities, and uncertainties
  • Integrate water balance and geochemical processes into forecasting frameworks
  • Review and guide analytical and data workflows developed by junior staff
  • Prepare and review technical reports
  • Collaborate with senior staff to ensure data integrity and traceability

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.Sc. degree in Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • 2-8 years experience
  • Eligible for P.Geo. (Professional Geoscientist) or P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) designation
  • Demonstrated experience with geochemical and/or water quality modelling
  • Strong understanding of mine waste geochemistry and water quality processes
  • Ability to independently interpret data and lead technical workstreams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical documents and presentations
  • Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently while balancing multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Geochemistry, Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with geochemical modelling tools (i.e., PHREEQC, The Geochemist’s Workbench)
  • Experience calibrating models using laboratory and field data
  • Familiarity with Python or R for model support, analysis, or automation
  • Experience mentoring junior staff or reviewing technical work
  • Working-level fluency in French
  • Located within Sudbury or Northern Ontario

Why Join Us

  • Lead real-world mine-related geochemical testing programs and develop predictive geochemical and water quality models to support mining operations
  • Gain exposure to a wide range of projects across mine waste geochemistry and water quality modeling
  • Mentor and collaborate with entry-level staff while working alongside a team with strong geochemical and modelling foundations
  • Grow alongside a dynamic, adaptive consulting company that is intentionally structured to suit a modern, evolving work environment
