Job Description
Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.
Position Overview
Under the general direction of the Chief Power Engineer and Maintenance Manager and in accordance with the requirements of the Provincial Licensing Standard, the employee is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and repair of high‑pressure boilers, refrigeration compressors, air compressors, diesel engines and generators, electric motors, pumps, turbines and all related equipment necessary to supply and deliver steam, chilled water, compressed air, emergency power, and fire main loop high pressure water to meet the requirements of the Centre.
A 2nd class power engineer may work as either Charge Engineer or Maintenance/Relief Engineer. As Charge Engineer, the employee is in charge of plant operation as per the Power Engineers Act and may perform minor maintenance and emergency repair within the Central Energy Plant. As Maintenance/Relief Engineer, the employee performs assigned maintenance work and relieves the regular Charge Engineer when absent. Provides assistance to the Charge Engineer as required.
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience as an Engineer in charge of a shift in a first‑class plant, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with instrumentation and operating experience (including minor troubleshooting) with electrical and electronic industrial controls required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete High School education, Manitoba Standards, preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- In accordance with the Regulations under the Power Engineers Act, the incumbent requires a valid and current Manitoba Second Class Power Engineer Certificate. Preference will be given to applicants with a license as an Instrument Technician, Millwright, Pipefitter, or Electrician.

- Must take extreme care in performance of tasks as in close contact with exposed high temperature piping, rotating equipment and high voltages.
- Work area is subject to high temperature, humidity and noise.
