General Information
The Physician Lead, Generation Health Clinic works as part of an interdisciplinary team on a sessional basis. This role provides medical leadership to the program and supports physicians delivering services through participating regional health authorities.
Generation Health Clinic is a multi-disciplinary, best practice, family-centred healthy living program that provides medical, nutrition, and mental health assessment and support for children and teens aged 6-17 living with obesity or living with overweight and specific health complications.
The Physician Lead role works up to 2 days per week at the clinic within BC Children's Hospital, up to 44 weeks/year. Intake days currently available based on space and team availability are Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (8:00-16:00). An additional 1/2 day per week is dedicated for administrative duties (triage of referrals, review of policies and procedures, planning for physician meetings, connecting with other clinics at BC Children's Hospital). Administrative support is provided to follow up with referring providers on consults, recent bloodwork, imaging, diagnostic results and support the team where needed.
Specific Accountabilities
Triage / Intake
- Review referrals for clinic eligibility criteria; triage for urgency
- Review referral forms, request required consult reports, blood work etc. for intake day
- Complete in-person medical intake (history and physical exam) with patient and their family, and review standard lab work
- Enter medical data into REDCap, complete documentation/reports, make referrals and liaise with referring practitioner as needed
Medical Care
- Review chart /bloodwork to check for completion of referrals, consultations, investigations etc.
- Review progress in blood work results and review with team
- Provide medical follow up every 3-6 months
Team Collaboration
- Meet with clinical team (dietitian, mental health professional) for case planning weekly
- Organize and chair quarterly virtual Physician meetings
- Participate in local/provincial team meetings/conferences/Grand Rounds
Qualifications
This position requires a Medical Doctor degree with current licensure or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Candidates will have experience in pediatrics/pediatric obesity; awareness of weight bias/stigma in health care and strategies to reduce it/ weight inclusive approach to care; and experience with interdisciplinary team-based care providing interdisciplinary care with a team based-approach.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression, as well as addressing racism more broadly. They show willingness to articulate and share their learning experiences to contribute to a culture of motivation and inspiration among peers.
As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Foundational knowledge of the social, economic, and political realities of settler-colonialism and its impacts on Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups within social and health contexts. Understands the impact of social determinants of health-on-health outcomes.
