Position Overview

Directly accountable to the Manager, Health Services, the Registered Nurse provides registered nursing services for patient/residents, including those with complex and unpredictable health needs. These services include independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, a leadership role within the health care team, and coordinating patient/resident care and discharge. May direct other nurses, students, health care aides and other support staff. Collaborates with physicians and professional health staff in the facility and community. Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision, Values, goals and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Deer Lodge Centre. Performs duties in accordance with health and safety regulations, policies and procedures, and uses PPE as required. Notifies Manager or designates of occurrences or safety concerns.

Experience

  • Experience with chronic illness, geriatrics and complex continuing care.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing educational program.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certified nurses preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Maintain and provide proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
  • Active participation in professional associations (e.g., ARNM) preferred.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of the WRHA and Deer Lodge Centre vision, values, goals and policies.
  • Knowledge of PHIA, WHMIS, and principles of routine practices; RHPA scope of practice; Centre policies and guidelines.
  • Nursing care knowledge related to geriatrics and complex continuing care; delegation principles.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, respond to multiple demands, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and confidentiality skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/residents, family members and staff.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate to heavy physical effort required.

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement. A satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector, Child Abuse Registry, and Adult Abuse Registry) is required. Security check must be current within six months of start.
