Job Summary

Swegon North America is seeking a Mechanical Designer – Co-op Student to join the Vibro-Acoustics engineering team. This role provides hands-on experience in mechanical design, documentation, and digital engineering processes, supporting production, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating parametric 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks, supporting product configuration, and contributing to SOP development, engineering documentation, and workflow automation, including SharePoint-based processes.

Compensation: $25.00/hour

Vacancy status: this is an open vacancy (2 openings) within Swegon North America that is based in Ajax, ON.

Hybrid policy: the successful new hires will be expected to be in the office located in Ajax, ON a minimum of 3 days per week.

Term: this is a spring/summer co-op role that will be approximately 4 months - ideal start date May 4th, 2026 through until the end of August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain parametric configurations for similar components and product families

  • Develop and maintain a library of standard components to support reuse and standardization

  • Create layouts for product lines and assemblies

  • Prepare detailed mechanical drawings including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T

  • Create assembly and part drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), feature drawings, and process flow documentation

  • Prepare and maintain production and manufacturing documentation

  • Support engineering SOPs, work instructions, and design standards documentation

  • Assist with document control to ensure quality, traceability, and revision accuracy

  • Maintain accurate electronic engineering files within PDM and SharePoint systems

  • Support automation and digital workflows, including SharePoint-based approval and document workflows

  • Identify missing or unclear technical information and communicate findings effectively

  • Provide design-related information and technical support to production and shop floor teams

  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, manufacturing, and operations teams

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, cost reduction, and standardization

Core Competencies & Behavioral Requirements

  • Demonstrates understanding of mechanical design techniques, drafting standards, materials, and manufacturing processes; actively develops technical skills

  • Works effectively with cross-functional teams and builds strong working relationships

  • Demonstrates sound moral and ethical principles in all work activities

  • Communicates clearly in both written and verbal forms; practices active listening

  • Uses resources effectively and supports cost-reduction initiatives

  • Open to change, new ideas, and evolving responsibilities

Education & Technical Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Mechanical/Manufacturing Technology program

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and drafting ability

  • Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing processes

  • Ability to create accurate 3D solid models and 2D drawings

  • Experience or exposure to SolidWorks and AutoCAD

  • Exposure to ERP systems, PDM, and SharePoint considered an asset

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness

  • Good organizational and time-management skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with engineering, sales, and shop floor teams
