The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS), through support of the Community Futures Treaty 7 and Canada Summer Job Grant, is currently accepting applications for non-permanent Administrative Support Summer Student.

Reporting to the Sergeant in charge of the Community Resource Unit, the Administrative Support Student will engage with the unit participating in community events and providing administrative support to the unit as required.   

Wage: Under Review

Term: This is a non-permanent, summer student role, from May – August, 2026

Responsibilities: 

  • Attend events with the Community Engagement Unit
  • Assist the service with community programs or events
  • Provide extensive administrative support
  • Answering general inquires as required
  • Interacting both with internal and external stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications

  • You enjoy working with others and in the community in a front facing role
  • You demonstrate a positive attitude
  • You are comfortable gathering information, conducting research and sharing your findings
  • You are currently enrolled to continue in post-secondary institution to complete your studies

Student Eligibility under CFT7 Grant:

  • Students must be enrolled in full-time studies, have Treaty Status from any First Nation in Canada, be unemployed, must NOT be receiving Employment Insurance benefits, and must attend the Student & Employer Symposium.

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

  1. Resumes will be reviewed for qualifications, education, experience, training and skills.
  2. Selected applicants will be contacted to complete a Personal Disclosure Form and Security Clearance Declaration (applicable to applicants outside of LPS).
  3. Successful applicants will be contacted for a Behavioral Descriptive Interview.
  4. Security Clearance Check will be conducted (applicable to applicants outside LPS).
  5. Reference verification of a minimum of three professional references.
  6. A successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.
  7. All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
  8. Duration of the hiring process may take approximately two to three months.

Further, LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victim's and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our building. In addition, we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.

Work Location

LPS employees are required to carry-out their assigned duties in-person at a Lethbridge Police Service facility.  Our Lethbridge Police Service Headquarters are located at 135 1st Avenue South Lethbridge, AB T1J 0A1**
