Job Information
Pentagon Group is currently seeking to hire responsible and reliable Fibre Splicer Technicians. The ideal candidates are individuals with minimum 3 years of fibre splicing experience, who enjoy working outdoors and who are not afraid of physical labour.
Responsibilities
- Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and confined spaces, on both newly placed and existing cables.
- Analyze test results and can troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects.
- Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.
- Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance with the Company Health and Safety policy.
- Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper, coax or fiber optic telecommunication cables.
- Operate a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment and maintain sufficient stock levels.
- Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays.
- Climb poles, ladders, bucket truck and work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of splicing experience.
- Able to complete the necessary training for First Aid, working at heights and confined space, pass the corresponding examinations and receive a client authorization number as required.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to interpret placing and splicing plans.
- Competency in OTDR and other testing protocol.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and willing to receive applicable Health and Safety training as per legislative and job requirements.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract.
- Available to work evenings, weekends and on call when required.
- Ability to meet physical requirements (bend, sit, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time).
