Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated Entry-level Geochemist with a strong interest in data, analytics, and computational tools to support environmental, mining, and exploration geochemistry programs. This role is ideal for someone who has a strong foundation in geochemistry and enjoys working with large datasets, building reproducible workflows, and moving beyond complex Excel-based analyses.
The ideal candidate will primarily support mine-related geochemical testing programs, while also contributing to exploration geochemistry data analysis. The role is designed to build a strong technical foundation under the guidance of senior geochemists.
Key Responsibilities
- Support mine-related geochemical testing programs (e.g., static tests, kinetic tests, water quality datasets)
- Manage, clean, and QA/QC geochemical datasets (laboratory and field data)
- Develop automated workflows using Python and/or R for data processing, analysis, and visualization
- Assist with analysis and interpretation of exploration geochemistry data (soil, rock, drilling datasets)
- Prepare tables, figures, and summaries for technical reports
- Help transition complex spreadsheet-based workflows into reproducible, auditable tools
- Collaborate with senior staff to ensure data integrity and traceability
Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc. degree in Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field
- 0-2 years experience
- Eligible for G.I.T. (Geoscientist-in-Training) or E.I.T. (Engineer-in-Training) designation
- Experience with Python and/or R (coursework, thesis, or project-based experience is acceptable)
- Experience with geospatial software (e.g., QGIS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical documents and presentations
- Self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently while balancing multiple priorities
- Demonstrated interest in continuous learning and tackling complex technical challenges
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Geochemistry, Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field
- Experience with geochemical modelling tools (i.e., PHREEQC, The Geochemist’s Workbench)
- Experience with cleaning and managing mineral exploration databases
- Working-level fluency in French
- Located within Sudbury or Northern Ontario
