Please direct any accommodation requests to our recruitment team.</p><p><b>Primary function</b></p><p>The Disability Management Specialist will plan, organize, and co-lead the adjudication of LAO’s disability and attendance management programs, including short- and long-term disability plans, accommodation requests, and return-to-work strategies. Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards and HRIS, you will collaborate closely with the HR Program Lead, Benefits & Pension Services to ensure consistency, accuracy, and timely processing of all claims.</p><p>Home Location: Toronto Provincial Office</p><p>Secondary Location: N / A</p><p>Reporting to: Manager, Total Rewards and HRIS</p><h3>Key accountabilities</h3><ul><li>Support the adjudication of LAO’s short-term disability programs, coordinate accommodation and return-to-work plans, and prepare decision letters.</li><li>Provide guidance to HR Business Partners, managers, employees, and labour relations representatives on disability and attendance management processes.</li><li>Consult with employees regarding available disability management services and their responsibilities in the workplace accommodation process.</li><li>Communicate claim status updates and return-to-work plans to employees and managers.</li><li>Proactively manage disability claims, including complex cases requiring nuanced solutions.</li><li>Administer HR system requirements and processes for all aspects of disability and attendance management, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.</li><li>Maintain accurate historical records and ensure compliance with record-keeping standards.</li><li>Stay current with workplace legislation and jurisprudence related to disability, attendance management, and accommodations.</li></ul><h3>Required skills & experience</h3><ul><li>University degree and completion of a recognized post-secondary Human Resources program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.</li><li>Professional accreditation (e.g., CCP, CHRP) is an asset.</li><li>Strong background in administering short- and long-term disability programs, including experience managing complex claims in a unionized environment.</li><li>Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and HR systems.</li><li>Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively at all organizational levels.</li><li>Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to manage sensitive situations.</li><li>Proven ability to handle shifting priorities and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.</li><li>Demonstrated facilitation and collaboration skills to achieve results.</li><li>High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.</li><li>Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.</li><li>Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.</li></ul><p>Final candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal record check.</p></p>
