Role Overview
The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support in the preparation, review, and management of contracts for the Region and Project and providing guidance to internal stakeholders within our operations. This position requires a deep understanding of contracts and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including subcontracts and vendor agreements
- Ensure that contracts are compliant with legal, regulatory, and company policies
- Provide support and guidance to project managers, procurement teams, and other internal stakeholders regarding contractual obligations, terms, and risk management
- Monitor contract performance and compliance, identifying potential contract risks and proposing solutions
- Maintain organized records of all contracts and related correspondence
- Manage contract change orders, including managing claims and working with external legal counsel as necessary
- Assist with regulatory filings and permit applications relevant to mining operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience, particularly in contracts, with a strong preference within the construction or mining sectors
- Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, risk management, and compliance requirements in the construction or mining industries
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage conflicting interests while protecting the company's interests
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams
- Self-starter with ability to handle complex issues in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with contract management software and document management systems
- Must be fluent in the English Language
- Valid driver's license
- Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or Law AND Certified Professional in Contract Management (CPCM) or
- Paralegal certification or
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
If JD, admission to the Ontario bar (or eligibility to become admitted)
Physical Requirements
- Work involves walking, standing, and climbing stairs or ladders to access field areas, equipment, and offices throughout the site
- May occasionally require bending, kneeling, or reaching to collect samples, perform inspections, or access workspaces
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle or working at a computer
- Must maintain sufficient visual acuity and depth perception to operate vehicles and safely navigate active mining or construction environments
- Work is conducted in both office and outdoor site environments, with potential exposure to noise, dust, vibration, heat, cold, and uneven terrain
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and high-visibility clothing when in designated areas
- Must be physically capable of safely performing the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
Additional Information- Currently based out of the Stobie Open Pit Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
- Valid driver's license required
- Subject to pre-employment conditions, including pre-employment medical, criminal background check, education/employment/professional reference checks
- Roster & Schedule: This role follows a Monday-Friday schedule. Additional hours may be required to meet business needs
Travel: This role requires <20% travel to project sites / client meetings /corporate offices. Travel frequency may vary by business needs

The salary range for this role is minimum $113,000 to a maximum of $129,000 CAD. The salary range is provided in good faith and is representative of all experience levels. Thiess considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills and is ultimately determined at management's discretion.
