Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Bylaw Services, the Bylaw Services Associate – Summer Student is responsible for assisting the By-law Services Associates with the complete administrative responsibilities for the entire By-law Section including By-law, Animal, and Parking Services.Job Duties Include
Job Duties
Act as the first point of contact for By-law, Animal Services, Parking, and Online Permitting inquiries, providing professional customer service by phone, email, and at the front counter
Receive, review, and process service requests, complaints, permits, licences, and applications, ensuring accurate data entry into municipal systems such as AMANDA and online permitting platforms.
Provide administrative and clerical support to the By-law Services team, including document preparation, records management, filing, correspondence, and coordination of internal workflows.
Assist with the administration of permits, licences, special events, and court-related documentation, including scheduling, record maintenance, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications/Skills
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Office Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field and returning to school in the fall.
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with residents, businesses, staff, and external agencies.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable learning and using database systems and online platforms.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
What is Offered to Staff
Compensation: The compensation for the summer student position is outlined below and is based on the student's current year of study: (College: $ $19.55; University Undergraduate: $ $21.71; Masters: $ $22.79; post-graduate: $ $24.4)
Hours of Work – The hours of work are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. This role requires students to work in the office.

Please note that students are not eligible to the EFAP program.

This position works on-site from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Proof of Enrollment in Post Secondary Education
The Town of Ajax will accept any of the following to verify enrollment in a college or university program:
Registrar's letter confirming enrollment and academic eligibility for the next semester;
Letter confirming your anticipated graduation date;
Letter indicating that you have more credits left to complete in your current degree;
Letter confirming your application to a program next term/semester at a post-secondary education establishment.
