Insight Global is looking for an Automotive Product Specialist to join our client in the automotive parts manufacturing industry on a full-time, permanent basis in Barrie, ON. The successful candidate will serve as a technical consultant and subject matter expert supporting automotive customers with product‑related inquiries. This role is ideal for someone with a strong automotive mechanical background who enjoys problem‑solving, research, and customer interaction—but does not require hands‑on mechanical work. The focus is on technical guidance, warranty‑based questions, and product performance support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for customers, handling approximately 5 calls per day along with a high volume of email‑based technical inquiries

  • Provide technical support and consultation related to automotive products, including diagnosing issues such as converter failures, post‑installation fault codes, and warranty concerns

  • Research and troubleshoot complex product issues when answers are not immediately known, escalating when necessary

  • Collaborate closely with internal operations to resolve technical challenges and improve product performance

  • Track customer interactions, warranty returns, and technical issues using Excel and other tracking tools, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail

  • Monitor market trends and review product catalogs to identify coverage gaps and opportunities for future product development

  • Deliver virtual product training (Zoom/Teams) to customers and distributors; in‑person training may follow

  • Support distributor relationships and help maintain an existing client base, including occasional U.S. travel

Must Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry, preferably in a technical customer service, product support, or mechanical advisory role

  • Strong mechanical understanding of automotive systems (hands‑on experience helpful, but this is not a hands‑on role)

  • Experience answering technical and warranty‑based questions related to automotive products

  • Ability to interpret product failures, installation issues, and diagnostic codes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with confidence speaking to customers via phone and email

  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities

  • High attention to detail when handling technical data, warranty claims, and customer follow‑ups

  • Comfortable working independently as a self‑starter in a fast‑paced environment

  • Proficiency with Excel/spreadsheets and general technical tracking tools

  • Ability to travel to the United States (up to 20%)

Plusses

  • Background working closely with mechanics or service departments

  • Experience supporting automotive product development or performance analysis

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD

  • Post‑secondary education in a technical or automotive‑related field

  • Experience delivering customer or distributor product training
