Kaneff Golf is seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Greens Superintendent to support the Golf Course Superintendent in overseeing the maintenance, care, and daily operation of our golf course. This key leadership role ensures that our course conditions meet Kaneff Golf's high standards for playability, aesthetics, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong agronomic knowledge, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, outdoor work environment. This position requires early mornings, variable hours, and weekend/holiday availability based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Turfgrass & Course Maintenance

  • Support all turfgrass activities, including mowing, aeration, fertilization, and pest management.
  • Ensure greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and all turf areas meet professional playing standards.
  • Diagnose and address turf diseases, insect activity, and environmental stressors.
  • Implement seasonal agronomic and cultural programs to maintain optimum turf health.

Irrigation System Management

  • Monitor, adjust, and optimize irrigation system performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system issues.
  • Assist with annual start-up and winterization procedures.

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Lead, train, and mentor grounds maintenance staff.
  • Assign and oversee daily tasks, ensuring safety compliance and quality output.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative team culture.

Equipment & Facility Maintenance

  • Assist with maintenance and operation of mechanical and power equipment.
  • Collaborate with the course mechanic on equipment servicing and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, well-organized, and safety-compliant maintenance facility.

Pest, Weed & Chemical Applications

  • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate chemical use records, including IPM logs.

Landscape & Grounds Management

  • Oversee trees, shrubs, bunkers, gardens, and non-turf areas.
  • Support landscape enhancement projects and seasonal plantings.
  • Ensure overall property aesthetics meet Kaneff Golf standards.

Record Keeping & Administration

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment use, labor hours, and chemical applications.
  • Assist with budgeting, inventory, and purchasing of maintenance supplies.
  • Prepare reports and updates for the Golf Course Superintendent.

Compliance & Safety

  • Enforce workplace safety procedures and participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and pesticide legislation.
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings as required.

Tournament & Event Support

  • Assist with tournament preparation, including course setup, hole locations, and conditioning.
  • Work collaboratively with the Pro Shop to ensure exceptional guest experiences.

Seasonal & Winter Responsibilities

  • Support winterization of turf and irrigation systems.
  • Assist with snow removal operations.
  • Participate in off-season equipment repairs, upgrades, and facility improvements.

Qualifications

  • Experience in golf course maintenance or turf management (education in turfgrass management is an asset).
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, turf maintenance practices, and equipment operation.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience in a grounds or maintenance environment.
  • Valid pesticide applicator certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions.
