Summary of Job
The City of Menasha is excited to announce the return of its seasonal Arborist Internship for the second year!
This opportunity is perfect for individuals passionate about the green industry, offering hands-on experience in urban forestry, parks, and recreation operations. Interns will work closely with the City Arborist, gaining valuable skills in all aspects of tree care.
With Menasha’s extensive tree inventory of over 6,300 individual trees, this internship will include a variety of forestry operations such as pruning, removals, planting, watering, and managing Emerald Ash Borer control efforts.
-Temporary, seasonal position that typically runs May – September
-Hours generally Monday through Friday, 7:00AM – 3:00PM, approximately 40 hours per week
–Qualifies for a three-credit accreditation through the UW-Oshkosh Environmental Science Studies Program

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITES:
- Assist with tree pruning, removal, and planting operations
- Safely chipping and removing brush, hauling woody debris
- Watering trees and removal of banding and metal stakes
- Mowing and trimming in various parks, trails, and green spaces
- Transport and load/unload equipment at various locations
- Assist with the daily and weekly maintenance of equipment
- Assist with maintenance of grounds, trees, flower beds and turf including weeding, mulching and watering
- Follow City and Department safety, personnel and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances
- Perform other related job duties as assigned
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Special events set-up and take down
- Maintain ball diamonds and other athletic facilities
- Cleaning and maintaining shelters and park restrooms
- Provides assistance with facility repair and construction projects
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Valid Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to safely operate a pick-up truck, gator, small tractor, commercial size lawnmowers, one ton dump truck, and trimming devices.
- Operator must be able to lift small and large branches/logs into a chipper or truck
- Must be able to communicate with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
