<h3>Position Overview</h3>
<p>In this leadership role as an Arboriculture and Horticulture Technical Advisor, you will be responsible for technical services, research and development, environmental programs, and education and training for Canadian operations. Davey Technical Advisors guide field service teams in diagnosing biotic and abiotic pest problems and prescribing the best products, application procedures, and cultural practices to be used at the client site. Our experts are specialists in fields such as entomology, horticulture, urban forestry, agronomy, plant pathology, and turf and landscape care. They train our sales staff and technicians and serve as resources for diagnostics and prescriptions to address the specific needs of our clients. Field teams use internet access to our multimedia reference materials produced by Technical Advisors and Davey Diagnostic Laboratory Staff, including detailed photos, videos, and databases to properly diagnose a customer’s tree, landscape or other related issues. Technical Advisors work as a team of regionally placed scientific experts to support all Davey operations in the United States and Canada. This position is stationed in Ontario to primarily support Eastern Canada operations, but will include support of all Davey Canada operations and also travel to the United States for additional support activities, training, meetings, and projects.</p>
<h3>Job Duties</h3>
<ul>
<li>Assist Davey Service Lines in strategic, growth-oriented projects and program level initiatives.</li>
<li>Provide technical support to field personnel via telephone, internet, and consultation travel to various Davey locations across Canada.</li>
<li>Develop and assist with research projects conducted by the Davey Institute. These may include evaluating various products or services intended for Davey operations or external cooperators.</li>
<li>Work is often required which may involve walking, lifting, digging, chemical applications, and rating treatment responses in indoor and outdoor environments.</li>
<li>Assist with and develop formal training programs for Service Line personnel.</li>
<li>Assist District, Area, Project and Account Managers in preparing bids and meeting with prospects and key clients.</li>
<li>Develop opportunities for external funding.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li>MSc or PhD horticulture, arboriculture or related plant science discipline.</li>
<li>Ability to be located in Ontario within six months of a job offer.</li>
<li>Valid provincial driver’s license.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, both oral and written.</li>
<li>Ability to teach co-workers and colleagues in person and via written and remote technologies.</li>
<li>Comfortable with public and client‑directed presentations.</li>
<li>Ability to work with multiple project leaders in a team‑based work environment.</li>
<li>Experience in designing, conducting, and interpreting research trials.</li>
<li>Computer literate and able to assist with preparation of research reports and Davey literature.</li>
<li>Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of time.</li>
<li>Lift up to 50 lbs.</li>
</ul>
