About the Role


This is a 4-8 month position


CVOS Oral Surgery Group is implementing a series of AI-enhanced operational and clinical systems across five clinics in the GTHA. We are seeking an upper-year or graduate Computer Science/Engineering student to assist our IT Manager in designing, developing, and integrating AI-driven and automation solutions that support clinical documentation, scheduling, referral intake, billing accuracy, and workforce analytics.

This is a technical, hands-on co-op role where you will build real production tools that directly impact patient care, operations, and system efficiency across our multi-site practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Python-based AI models and automation workflows under the direction of the IT Manager.
  • Build data pipelines for referral intake, clinical documentation, and billing verification.
  • Assist in developing predictive models for:
    • Staff scheduling (unionized environment constraints)
    • Workforce planning (seasonal demand forecasting)
    • Patient-risk prediction
  • Support EMR integration tasks, including API connections and automation scripting.
  • Contribute to testing, debugging, deployment, and quality assurance.
  • Prepare technical documentation and ensure PHIPA-compliant data practices.


Required Technical Skills

  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience with AI/ML libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy, transformers).
  • Exposure to Natural Language Processing and predictive analytics.
  • Experience with APIs and RESTful integrations.
  • Familiarity with RPA tools (UiPath, Power Automate, etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of SQL and database concepts.
  • Understanding of data security and privacy principles.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolment in 3rd, 4th year, or graduate Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related program.
  • Experience with automation, healthcare tech, or data science projects is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
